Abstract

Pressure ulcers are a serious health problem. Although prevalence statistics may vary, what’s become starkly evident are the costs associated with pressure ulcers: costs in terms of suffering and diminished quality of life for patients and the cost to the health care industry, in terms of resources consumed and manpower hours dedicated to managing the problem, and the very real monetary cost to individuals, health insurers and the government.
