International Nurses Day 2009

Abstract

So nurses now have their own day – International Nurses Day on the 12th of May. So what? Well if we let it be, it will be a nonevent. Just another day. I’m glad to say that isn’t the case this year. Employers are celebrating with special events and gifts. The media is promoting nursing with interviews. If we left it to ourselves, we would be too busy doing the unglamorous but pivotal role of looking after the health of the nation! This nursing business is real frontline stuff that doesn’t have much to do with strutting along a catwalk like a model. There isn’t anything glamorous about caring for a person dying of AIDS, but then again there isn’t anything more special.
