Rotavirus infection

Abstract

Rotavirus infection is a common cause of severe gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide.^1,2 Most children will have their first infection by the age of three years.^2,3 In developing countries, most children are infected before one year of age.³ The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 527 000 children under five years of age die annually from rotavirus infections.⁴ In this article, we discuss rotavirus infection and focus on prevention through vaccination.
