Keywords: Infection control, intensive care, medical & surgical nursing
AbstractThis is the first of a two-part series of microbial fact sheets on some of the common hospital pathogens which cause healthcare-associated infections. The objectives are to revive the reader’s interest in the microbiological aspects of infection prevention and control by explaining the clever pathogenic and survival strategies used by microorganisms, as well as the rationale for the practical measures which should be implemented at unit level to prevent and/or contain their spread.
