Constipation

Abstract

Patients usually describe and define constipation as the passing of hard, dry or crumbly stools, often with pain and sometimes bleeding as the result of haemorrhoids or an anal fissure, which causes incredible pain when passing the faecal mass. An anal fissure is often seen in children and is sometimes the reason why children won’t pass a stool, a situation, which can result in faecal impaction. Parents, or patients, often remark that there are blood spots on the toilet paper, which usually fits in with the history of an anal fissure.
