Abstract
In response to the dire nursing shortage experienced by the South African healthcare community, several efforts have been made to recruit nurses from India. The process cannot be perceived as a “quick-fix” to alleviate staffing issues in hospitals, but rather as a more complex practice that requires dedicated integration of the Indian recruit with the South African clinical, social and cultural environment.
